A beautiful skin starts with a healthy lifestyle. The correct nutrition and sufficient liquids, as well as adequate sleep, movement and happiness are the basis for healthy and beautiful skin. For adequate care, the skin depends on a regular supply of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals through the blood supply. The skin is best nourished with a balanced and varied diet. Malnutrition and a deficient diet, on the other hand, leave visible traces.

Our metabolism uses part of our diet as components in the regeneration of the skin.

Carbohydrates are the classic sources of energy: they primarily serve to provide our bodies with a fast source of energy. These are the main ingredients in fruit, vegetables and grain and are accompanied by particularly valuable substances. Amongst others, they provide active biological agents such as lyvopin or phenolen, which offer wide-ranging cell protection.

Protein is a building block of our cells, a component of enzymes, hormones, antibodies and a carrier of genetic material. We need it for constant cell regeneration. Fish, meat, eggs, milk products, pulses and grain are all sources of protein. The sulphur-rich amino acid cysteine is essential for beautiful skin. Pulses, as well as soya products such as tofu and soya milk, are a rich source of cysteine.

Fat is a component of hormones and bile acids, a source of fat-soluble vitamins, a building material for cell walls, an energy store and a buffer in our bodies. Fat is also a basic substance of the tissue hormones. Essential for life, and therefore vital for us, are unsaturated fatty acids, found above all in good quality, cold-pressed oils. Their ingredients are essential for health and for beautiful skin.

Particular “fruit treats“ to retain youthfulness are apples and grapes. In addition to many vitamins, apple peel contains secondary plant trace material as well as the satiating roughage, pectin. Grapes contain an essential protective agent against free radicals: resveratrol. It strengthens the heart and circulation, prevents premature hardening of the arteries and protects the immune system.

Recipe anti-ageing cocktail:

Here a recipe for an anti-ageing cocktail: 2½ dl freshly pressed orange juice (vitamin C), 1½ dl cranberry juice (antioxidant), 1½ dl carrot juice (vitamin A) and 2 teaspoons wheat germ oil (vitamin E).

Water as the fountain of youth

Our body consists of 80 per cent water. Without sufficient moisture, the skin cells become dry and flaky. If you do not drink enough liquid, you age more quickly. Give your body the water it needs. At least 1.5 litres a day are required, preferably pure water. Drinking green tea regularly is also an excellent anti-ageing strategy. Green tea is rich in minerals, vitamins and essential oils. The secondary vegetable ingredients in green tea capture free radicals and protect the cells. Matcha tea – the finest of all green teas, is particularly effective. It is by far the healthiest and most highly beneficial tea, rich in minerals, ballast, amino acids and antioxidants.

Smoking

With a surface of over two square meters, the skin is the largest organ of the body. The middle layer of skin, also known as the corium, consists of a network of collagen fibres and elastic fibres. Embedded in these are the blood vessels, glands, sensory cells and hair roots. Together they form a finely balanced system – a system which becomes unbalanced by smoking. The negative effect of cigarette smoke on the skin is due to many mechanisms. Nicotine promotes the breakdown of collagen fibres and elastic fibres. This triggers a shrinking process in the skin and leads to the formation of wrinkles.
